Linton, Sheila L.,
Shiela L. Linton was born on December 19, 1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Elvere and Harold Linton. Her family lived in South Philadelphia until 1959 when they moved to West Philadelphia. Her father was a tailor and her mother was an administrative assistant. She had one sister. Linton attended Huey Elementary School, Tilden Junior High School, and Bartram High School in Philadelphia. She took her bachelor's degree from the Pennsylvania State University and her master's degree from Drexel University (library science). Between 1972 and 1979 Linton taught elementary school and took executive training from and worked for Gimbel's department store in Philadelphia. In 1979 she was hired by the Glenmede Trust Company as a program analyst for the grantmaking section. She left Glenmede in 1987 as a program officer and returned to teaching. During her tenure at Glenmede she focused on education and human services grantmaking and training of the grantmaking staff.
