Fitz, Henry, 1808-1863
Variant namesHenry Fitz, Jr. was a pioneer photographer and the first commercial telescope maker in the United States. His workshop and tools are on display at the Smithsonian Institution. His son Henry G. Fitz (1847-1939) continued the telescope business for some time, and later taught drawing at the Harlem Evening High School for Men in New York City. Another son, Benjamin Rutherford Fitz was a painter.
