Dramatics (Hope College)
The first play presented at Hope College was Sophocles' "Antigone" in 1904. In 1909 the senior class presented a temperance play. The senior play remained a tradition until 1942. A Dramatic Club was organized in 1917. In 1939, Palette and Masque (another dramatics club) was formed. A formalized theater department was not established until 1968.
