Frank T. Dupree, Jr., was born in Angier, N. C., on 8 October 1913. He was graduated from the University of North Carolina with a law degree in 1936, after which he practiced law with his father in Angier. In 1939, he started work with A. J. Fletcher's law firm in Raleigh as an associate. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, then returned to his former practice.
An active Republican, Dupree served as Republican member of the Wake County Board of Elections, chairman of the Wake County Republican Party, and a member of the State Republican Executive Committee before he was appointed United States District Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina by President Nixon on 12 December 1970. He took office on 4 January 1971. From 1971 to 1980, Dupree tried virtually all of the civil litigation in the Eastern District of North Carolina. He became Chief Judge of the District on 9 June 1979.
Dupree held court by special designation in each of the three federal districts in North Carolina, the Northern District of West Virginia, the District of South Carolina, and the Middle District of Florida. He also sat by designation with the Courts of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago, the First Circuit in Boston, and the Fourth Circuit in Richmond, Va.
Dupree was married to the former Rosalyn Adcock of Oxford, N.C.; they had two daughters.
Dupree died on 17 December 1995.
