Mission Studies was published quarterly by the General Literature Committee of the General Synod's Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Society(WHFMS). It contained material that corresponded to subjects designated for discussion at monthly society meetings and monthly programs. It was designed for use by the leaders of missionary societies and was intended to be a supplement to lessons published in the Lutheran Missionary Journal. In each issue there was a "Leader's Corners" where readers exchanged ideas and questions. For each monthly meeting, it listed a Bible reading, a lesson study, a prayer topic, and a suggested program for the meeting. In addition, there were articles that correlated with study lessons. These articles frequently included communications from missionaries in the field. There was also similar material for children's mission organizations, known as mission bands. At the end of each issue were uniform readings for each month, meeting subjects for upcoming months, notices to subscribers, and a listing of educational materials available from the General Literature Committee. By 1903 the format had changed slightly and the cover was redesigned.
