Thomas Burton Adams, Jr. was born March 11, 1917. After a career in real estate management and agriculture, Adams entered politics and was first elected to the Florida Senate in 1956. In 1960 Adams was elected Secretary of State of Florida. He served as Secretary of State until elected as Lieutenant Governor in 1971. Adams also served as Secretary of the Dept. of Commerce while serving as Lieutenant Governor.
