Staples, Samuel E. (Samuel Elias), 1822-1902
Variant namesSamuel Elias Staples (1822-1902) was a merchant in Worcester, Mass., first president of the Worcester County Music Association, and founder and first president of the Worcester Society of Antiquity. Staples wrote articles for scholarly journals (e.g. "Ancient Psalmody and Hymnology of New England"), composed several psalm-tunes, and was active in the temperance movement.
