Lewis Kennedy (1789-1877), English landscape architect, was the grandson of noted horticulturalist and nurseryman Charles Lee, the co-founder of the famous Vineyard Nursery in Hammersmith. Kennedy worked on the Empress Josephine's garden at Malmaison and on the Tuilleries for Napoleon; in 1814 the Duke of Devonshire engaged him to renovate and expand the important gardens at Chiswick House outside of London. Early in 1815 he prepared the present album as a prospectus for redesigning the house and gardens of Francis Hearle Rodd at Trebartha Hall, Cornwall, but was apparently not given the commission. In later years Kennedy settled at Drummond Castle in Scotland as both gardener and estate agent.
From the description of Notitiae of the alterations proposed at Trebartha Hall the seat of F. Hearle Rodd Esqre. Cornwall, 1815, January 2. (Huntington Library, Art Collections & Botanical Gardens). WorldCat record id: 730069056
