Appearing at Galveston, Texas, in the early 1800's under the name "Old Rosin, the bow," the theme of these variations spread to New England as "Acres of Clams," and finally as "Lincoln and liberty," figured in the 1860 presidential campaign.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.
