Haughton family.

The Haughton family of Chatham County, N.C., included planter John Haughton and his son, John Hooker Haughton (1810-1876), lawyer in Chatham County and New Bern, N.C. John Haughton's grandson, Thomas Hill Haughton (d. 1915), graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1861 and served as a lieutenant in the Confederate army. John Laurence Haughton (1841-1862), probably another grandson of John Haughton's, also graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1861, but died while in service of the Confederate army.
