Nancy Iretta Briggs Rooker Richards was a Utah county religious education civic leader. She was the wife of Paul C. Richards, director of public communications at Brigham Young University. She graduated from Brigham Young High School and obtained her bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in speech, both from BYU. As a student at BYU, she was a champion debater, served on the student senate, the student supreme court, Inter-organizational Council, and was national secretary and vice-president of Tau Kappa Alpha. After postgraduate work at Stanford and Columbia Universities, she earned a doctorate in rhetorical and public address from the University of Utah. She later taught at Brigham Young University, the University of Utah, the University of Chicago, Murray High School, and Hillside Junior High School. She was also a member of the Salt Lake Assistance League, the Salt Lake Opera Guild, the Pioneer Theatre Guild, the Salt Lake Bar Auxiliary, the Utah Heritage Foundation, and the Provo Arts Council. She served as board member and president of the BYU Alumni Association. Nancy was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous leadership and teaching positions on both the ward and stake level. She was also active in the Republican party, serving as local chair and vice-chair, and as a delegate to county and state conventions. Nancy Briggs Rooker Richards died of cancer on November 13, 1988 at her home in Provo.
