Fall was born Dec. 17, 1942 in Port Clinton, OH. He attended Bowling Green State University from 1961-1965 working several jobs for the Department of Biology including a museum assistant, Lake Erie Islands Expedition Leader, and Enewetak Atoll Expedition Biologist while obtaining his BS in Biology/English (1963) and MA in Biology/Psychology (1966). While attending Pennsylvania State University from 1965-1970 to procur his PhD in Entomology/Vertebrate Pest Management (1978), Fall worked for the Departments of Zoology and Entomology as a field station leader, graduate research assistant and instructor. He joined the Denver Wildlife Research Center in 1970 as a wildlife biologist-field station leader for the International Programs Section based on the campus of the University of the Philippines, College of Agriculture, Quezon, Philippines. He conducted primarily rodent control research and provided on-site training to international colleagues for five years until returning to Denver in 1975, where he continued as staff mammologist in the international programs group providing project development, training and expertise to foreign biologists worldwide. In 1981, he became the Mammal Research Program Manager of the renamed National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC), until his formal retirement in 2001. From 2001, Fall has worked as a part-time wildlife biologist and manager of a cooperative agreement between the Center and the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. He has held or holds numerous committee, scholar, teaching and adjunct staff appointments and completed a Certificate in Management/Adminsitration for the University of Denver in 1985. A landscape gardening enthusiast and avid house remodeler, Fall and his wife Majilinde (Linde), raised a son.
