Leonard Caum Moffitt was the campus-community planner at the University of California, Irvine, (1962-1965) as well as the author of several books about the planning of communities including the UC Irvine campus, the city of Irvine and Orange County, California. Moffitt was appointed to the position of campus-community planner by Daniel G. Aldrich, UC Irvine's first chancellor. He worked closely with architects, Irvine Company employees and UC administrators during the planning and construction of the UC Irvine campus. After initial planning of the campus was complete, Chancellor Aldrich commissioned Moffitt to study the rapid growth of Orange County during 1950s and 1960s. The published book that resulted from Moffitt's research is titled: Community and Urbanization: Orange County, California.
