While attending Yorktown High School, Melody Miller worked as an intern for Congressman Joseph Montoya. She enrolled at Penn State, and worked in the office of Jacqueline Kennedy in 1964 after the assassination of John F. Kennedy and until Jacqueline Kennedy resumed private life. She later worked as an intern in the office of Senator Robert Kennedy in 1965. Miller graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1967 with a degree in secondary education and worked as press assistant for Senator Robert Kennedy during his presidential campaign in 1968. After the assassination of Robert Kennedy in 1968, Miller worked in the office of Senator Edward Kennedy until she retired in 2005 from her position of senior aide and spokesperson.
