Little is known about Tom Greasley beyond what can be ascertained from his student record and the contents of the collection described here. He was born in about 1896 and passed his matriculation examination in 1915. He entered University College Nottingham (now the University of Nottingham) in 1919. He attained a Bachelor of Science honours degree in Chemistry in 1922 as an external student of the University of London. He became an Associate of the Institute of Chemistry in 1923 and was still registered at University College in the 1923/1924 academic year. During that year, he studied under Professor F.S. Kipping. While at college, Greasley was living at 58 Middleton Street, Old Radford, Nottinghamshire. The presence of an item about Nottingham theatre suggests he had an interest in the stage.
