Mary Fleming was the sister-in-law of Sir George Fleming (1667-1747), 2nd Baronet. George Fleming was born at Rydal Hall on 10 June 1667, the fifth son of Sir Daniel Fleming. He entered St Edmund's Hall, Oxford, in 1688 (B.A., 1692; M.A. 1694), and became domestic chaplain to Dr Smith, Bishop of Carlisle, in 1699. Fleming became canon of Carlisle, 1700, Archdeacon, 1705, Dean, 1727, and, finally, Bishop, 1734. He succeeded as baronet in 1736, and died at Rose Castle on 2 July 1747.
