Hartridge (1909-2008) served in the Army Reserves and the Army from 1937 until 1959.

He attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Pennsylvania, had his internship at Philadelphia General Hospital, and, before being called to active duty, worked as a country doctor in Horicon (Wisconsin). After his service, he settled in Madison (Wisconsin) and worked at the Jackson Clinic.
