Parker, James William, 1920-
Variant namesAs a teenager, James W. Parker worked as a construction laborer at the Hanford Engineer Works of the Manhattan Project. He had enlisted in the Army Air Corps in January 1944 but had been deferred because of age. While waiting to be called, he accompanied his father, an electrician, who moved the entire family from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Hanford. James was able to find employment at the wartime construction sites at Pasco, Richland, and Hanford, eventually getting top clearance to work as an electricians helper on the reactor building.
