Kukuruza, Pawlo, 1896-1978.

A publisher and editor, Pawlo Kukuruza (1896-1978) was born in Nova Ushchytsia, Ukraine and came to the United States in 1949 after living in Warsaw and Slovakia. Kukuruza had also lived in Uzhhorod where he organized the Pchilka Publishing house, which published monographs, the youth journal Pchilka, the montly Pidkarpatske pscholiarstvo and a series of children's books. He also edited almanacs of the Prosvita society and various textbooks. He was imprisoned in Hungary (1939) and in Germany (1941-1942). From 1945 to 1949, he organized the publishing activities of the Ukrainian Technicaland Husbandry Institute in Munich.
