E. Barton Worthington was an environmental biologist who worked on projects involving dams, rivers and lakes. He began his research by studying the fisheries of Lake Victoria in Africa during the depression years. He ended up writing the volume on science for Lord Hailey's monumental African Survey in 1938. He was also the scientific Director of the International Biological Program of the International Council of Scientific Unions.
