Green, Charles, 1814-1887

Charles Green (1814-1887), American naval officer. Green was born in Windsor, Conn. In 1837 he was sommissioned Lieutenant of the United States Navy, and in 1855 received the rank of Commander. During the Civil War, Green was assigned to the Atlantic Blockading Squadron. In the summer of 1861, he commanded the United States sloop-of-war Jamestown. His son, Charles Larmar Green (1841-1922) assisted him as a civilian clerk. In 1867, he was added to the retired list in the rank of Commodore.
