Samuel Meredith Dickinson was born at Trenton, N.J., on June 25, 1839. He studied law until 1861when he entered the military service of New Jersey as a private in the National Guard, and was later discharged to accept an appointment and commission as Paymaster in the United States Navy, assigned to the U.S. Sloop of War "Dale". In 1863 he was admitted as an attorney, and three years later as a counselor-at-law of New Jersey. He was the author of CHANCERY PRECEDENTS (1879) and PROBATE COURT PRACTICE (1884).
