Ida May Clapper was born on March 1, 1911. She graduated from Petoskey (Mich.) High School. In 1933, Ida graduated from Central Michigan University. She then taught at Beecher High School, Flint (Mich.). Ida married Leonard Klungle, with whom she had seven children: Leonard, Jr.; Robert; Sharon; Ida May; Ruth; John; and Kenneth. The Klungles lived at various times in Flint and Lansing (Mich.) and Ariz. Ida died in Lansing on Sept. 24, 1998. (Information from the collection.) A copy of her Diary of an around the world tour is also in the Clarke Historical Library.
