John Marion Edgar was born in 1858 in Philadelphia, Pa. He received both an M.D. and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1880. In the Medical Department he was precepted by S.S. Stryker and wrote his thesis on the minute anatomy of the spleen. At commencement he received a Distinguished Mention in the Anatomical Prize Contest for his practical anatomy report. Dr. Edgar was still living in Philadelphia in 1922. No further information could be located.
