BIOGHIST REQUIRED Author, linguist, Professor of Celtic at Columbia University from 1911 until his death, and Executive Officer of the Department of Romance Languages at Columbia University. He was born in Columbia, Missouri and earned an A.B. degree from the University of Missouri in 1898, an A.M. degree in 1899, his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska in 1902. At Columbia University, he was active in establishing the Casa Italiana and the Maison Franca̧is and contributed to the Romanitc Review.
