• 1884: Discovered use of cocaine as local anesthetic in eye surgery Presented paper, "Vorläufige Mittheilung über locale Anästhesirung am Auge," at meeting of German Ophthalmological Society, Heidelberg, Germany Presented paper, "Ueber die Verwendung des Cocaïn zur Anästhesirung am Auge," at meeting of Society of Physicians, Vienna, Austria
