Engineer and head of Nuclear Engineering at Iowa State University. Born in Boulder, Colo. 1908; graduated from Colorado State Preparatory School 1925; attended University of Colorado receiving a bachlor of science degree in civil engineering in 1929 and a master of science degree in 1930; research graduate assistant at the University of Illinois from 1930 through 1932 when he earned a second master's degree; Ph. D. from Iowa State University in 1935; University of Colorado awarded him the degree of civil engineering in 1937 and the honorary degree of Doctor of Science in 1973. At Iowa State University he served as Instructor in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (1932-34); Assistant Professor in T. and A.M. (1934-38), Professor in T. and A.M. (1941-55), Head of Aeronautical Engineering (1952-55), Professor and Head of T. and A.M. (1955-60), Senior Engineer for the Institute for Atomic Research (1948-63), Head of Nuclear Engineering (1959-73), Iowa State University Engineering Education Projects Coordinator from 1972 until his death in 1978.
