Werner Droescher emigrated to New Zealand in 1941, left to live in Australia in 1948, and returned to take up a position in the Department of Germanic Languages, University of Auckland, 1962-1975. In 1975 he moved permanently to Wilderland, a Coromandel commune where he lived until his death in 1978.
