Keweenaw National Historical Park is made up of partner sites and two federally designated units - Quincy and Calumet - located at the sites of former large-scale copper mines. The Calumet Unit of the park focuses on the preservation and interpretation of buildings and sites associated with the former Calumet & Hecla Copper Mining Company and the Village of Calumet. Within the Quincy Unit are former Quincy Mining Company properties, including mine shafts, hoist houses and the copper smelting complex on the shore of Portage Lake. Most property within the units is privately owned. As the park continues to develop, additional services will become available (from http://www.nps.gov/kewe/index.htm, accessed January 2011).

"A Step in Time: A Walking Tour of Calumet, Michigan" was developed in part by Stan Dyl, a local resident of Calumet. The tour was designed to enable the visitor to recapture and experience the character of old Red Jacket (now Calumet) and its days of copper glory. Together, with all the buildings still virtually intact, they express the informal character of a once prosperous mining town, financed largely by Boston investors but inhabited by first generation European immigrants who worked the mines. Old Red Jacket, never a planned company town, virtually grew in response to the great copper mining activity in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The Red Jacket Downtown Historic District is living proof of the legacy of mining and miners and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places (excerpted from "A Step in Time: A Walking Tour of Calumet, Michigan").

Developed by Stanley J. Dyl of Calumet, Michigan, the object of "Copper Baron" was to be the richest player on the board by the time the copper is mined out. Each game turn consisted of management, property, building, production, and selling phases. Properties and other facets of the game are based on the copper boom during the 19th and 20th centuries in Michigan's Copper Country.
