After moving with his family to Dallas at the age of eighteen, Moose worked on a cow ranch in Odessa until his marriage to Ruby Taylor five years later. In 1922, the couple moved to Williams, Arizona, where he was employed at a sawmill. A year later, Moose passed a Civil Service Exam and was appointed District Forest Ranger. Following his retirement in 1954, he returned briefly to Agnes, before building a home in Azle, Texas.
