Bacon Felt Company.
Hide Profile
Located in Winchester, Mass., the company was started by Robert Bacon in 1825 to manufacture hats. Bacon's son John H. joined the firm in 1850; John's son Charles N. also was part of the company. After 25 years, the company no longer made hats; it began to make all-wool sheet felt for the wallpaper trade, polishing marble, and other mechanical uses. It also made felt wheels for polishing and burnishing. It continued as a family-owned business until 1941, when Stanley and Samuel McNeily took over the company and later moved it to Taunton, Mass.
