Schotte was born Dec. 21, 1895. He receive the Licencié-es-Sciences in 1920 and the D. Sc. in 1925 from the University of Geneva. After teaching at European universities and at Yale, he came to Amherst College in 1934 and taught in the Biology Department until 1966. After retirement he continued to conduct research until shortly before his death on Apr. 12, 1988. Schotte earned a reputation for his work in neurotrophic and morphogenetic control of regeneration. He was author or co-author of over 65 scientific publications in the fields of experimental morphology, experimental embryology, endocrinology and regneration.
