Roswell Sears Lander, founder of Shearman Concrete Pipe Company in North Little Rock, Ark., was born in Boston, Mass., on 19 Jan. 1882. He went to Arkansas in 1901, graduating fron the University of Arkansas with a degree in civil engineering, and was engaged in railroad construction before forming the Shearman Concrete Pipe Company in 1920. In 1908 he married Mary Fort Hamilton of Fayetteville. The couple had one son, Andrew H. Lander (b. 1909) who attended school at Winchester, Tenn., and a daughter, Mary Downs Lander, who married John R. Fordyce. Fordyce was killed in North Africa during World War II.
