William Clarke was born in New York City and graduated from the Taft School and Yale University. He was the former plant manager of Handy & Harman and was active in a wide variety of civic and cultural affairs. After his retirement in 1976 he pursued his interests in photography and poetry. He won several awards for his photography and displayed his work in solo exhibitions at the Fairfield Public Library, First Church Congregational and local banks.
