The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor of North Carolina State University is the chief academic officer under the Chancellor, and is responsible for review and approval of all academic programs and policies, as well as the appointment, promotion and compensation of the faculty. The position first existed as the Dean of the Faculty beginning in November 1955. In 1967, the title was changed to Provost, in 1971 to Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and in 2003 to Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor.
