George C. Taylor was born in 1915. He was trained as a hydrogeologist and had a career with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) beginning in 1937. From 1950 to 1955 he worked with the Geological Survey of India on loan from USGS. From 1962-1974 he was USGS Chief, Office of International Hydrology and worked in numerous foreign projects in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and South America. He wrote of his experiences in his unpublished memoirs, "Ten Year with the Mercenaries of International Development, 1975-1986". His work took him around the world to countries including: Jordan, Peru, Yemen, Upper Volta, Senegal, Mali, Oman, and Portugal.
