C. O. (Cyrus Otway) Weller was born in Tennessee in November, 1841. He attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1868-1869. In 1870, he married and by 1881 had relocated to Austin, Texas. He practiced medicine in Austin from approximately 1885 to the time of his death in November, 1911. In addition to seeing patients, he was a druggist and sold toiletries and stationary out of a space located at 2300 Guadalupe St. C.O. and his wife, Florence, had four children--C. (Cyrus) Burford, Clarence, McLeary and Sallie Bell. C. Burford, Clarence and McLeary all went on to study medicine. C. Buford was born April 22, 1881 in Austin where he practiced medicine along with his brother, Clarence, from 1910 to the time of his death on November 26, 1935. From 1927-1934, C. Burford and his family lived in West Austin in a home designed for them by noted Austin architect Hugo Kuehne at 1400 Lorrain St. Following C. Burford's death in 1935, his wife, Lucille Edgar (1890-1987), became very active in the Austin arts community. In the early 1950s, she became Vice President of the Texas Fine Arts Association. It was in that capacity that she organized the first TFAA circuit exhibitions throughout Texas and Mexico in 1953. In 1964, she transitioned to executive secretary of the organization. She was also an active member of the Austin Art League for several decades, served as president of the Medical Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Austin Women's Club. In 1968, she was named Outstanding Women of the Year by the Austin American-Statesman.
