James Sargant Storer (1771-1853) and Mary Coe (1774 or 5-1824) were married in February 1794 and had eleven children, several of whom are represented in this book, including: Henry Sargant Storer (1796-1837), Ann Storer (b. 1805), Ernest Storer (b. 1815), Selina, Elizabeth, and Sarah. The family lived in Cambridge and had a home in Islington, London. James S. Storer was a draftsman and engraver, and he worked with his son Henry. The father and son team illustrated many books together, and Henry exhibited his art at the Royal Academy. Anne Storer and Selina were also illustrators and engravers.
