Prof. José F. Buscaglia-Salgado is the son of the well know Puerto Rican educator and sculptor José Buscaglia Guillermety. He graduated from Princeton University in 1986. He is currently the Director of the Program in Caribbean Studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo. In 2002 Buscaglia was influential in the establishment of the first dgree-granting graduate program to be jointly administered by a Cuban and a US university - the University of Havana and the University at Buffalo.
