Since its inception in 1944, the office of Vice President for Finance and Operations and Treasurer has been responsible to the President. Its predecessor units are Treasurer (1933-1940) and the Accounting Office (1940-1944). The office has previously been known as the Comptroller and Treasurer's Office (1944-1957) and as the Vice President for Business and Finance and Treasurer (1957-1970). Upon the death of Jack Breslin, the Vice President for Administration and Public Affairs, in 1985, the office took on many of the responsibilities formerly delegated to Breslin's vice presidency. The Vice President for Finance and Operations and Treasurer administers numerous units, including Housing and Food Service, Campus Mail, University Services, and Intercollegiate Athletics.
