The Parsons family lived in New York City and Lenox, Massachusetts. John Edward Parsons married Mary Dumesnil, daughter of Bowes Reed McIlvaine and Catherine Dumesnil, and they had six children. Daughters Mary and Gertrude never married and lived at the family's estate in Lenox after their father's death. Edith married David Percy Morgan. Helen died unmarried at the age of 25. Herbert married folklorist Elsie Clews and was a Congressman from 1905-1911. Constance married attorney Montgomery Hare.
