Henry Leslie Lyman, the son of Elizabeth Hale Roberts and Dr. David Russell Lyman, was born on April 20, 1848, in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1856, the family moved to Buffalo, New York. On April 10, 1871, H. Leslie married Jane Ellen Newman in Buffalo. They had 5 children. H. Leslie worked for several railroad companies in Buffalo. In 1876, the family moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, where H. Leslie became very interested in promoting the cultivation of fruit as a cash crop. He died in Charlottesville on August 5, 1935.
