Thomas Merritt Pittman (1857-1932) of Franklin County, Charlotte, and Henderson, N.C., was a lawyer, judge, and member of the North Carolina Historical Commission, 1911-1932. Pittman was a prominent Baptist and collaborated with Reverend J. D. Hufham in publishing a series of Baptist historical papers. He was also involved with a committee investigating the Torrens system of registering land titles, 1911-1917.

Thomas M. Pittman was a lawyer, judge, a member of the North Carolina Baptist Historical Society, and editor of the North Carolina Baptist Historical Papers. His wife, Elizabeth Norwood (Briggs) Pittman, was the Womans Missionary Union Corresponding Secretary, 1910-1911; Band Superintendent, 1897-1907; and Junior Superintendent of the Young Woman's Auxiliary, 1907-1924.
