University of Michigan. Office of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Affairs.
The Human Sexuality Office, one of several precursors to the office of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Affairs, was established in 1971. It was the first such office in the United States.
James Toy, an activist on behalf of gay-lesbian rights, was the founder and co-head of the office. Initially the office had a separate lesbian and gay male advocates. After several reorganizations the office was headed by a single coordinator.
