The Dept. of Chemistry of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences occupies a group of buildings located on Oxford Street in Cambridge, Mass. Included are the James Bryant Conant Laboratory (built 1958-1959, for research in all areas of chemistry); the Converse Memorial Laboratory (built 1925-1926 for research in organic chemistry); Wolcott Gibbs Memorial Laboratory (built 1913 for research in physical chemistry); and Edward Mallinckrodt Chemical Laboratory (built 1927-1928 for physical, industrial, organic and analytical chemistry).
