Sallie Smith, born in Bulloch County, Georgia, attended Tyson Grove School before going on to college at South Georgia Teachers College (soon re-named Georgia Teachers College). After obtaining her degree in Library Science at Florida State University, she became a librarian in Austell, Georgia. IN 1966, she returned to Statesboro and became an instructor-librarian at Georgia Southern College and a school librarian at Mattie Lively Elementary School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Bulloch County Historical Society, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, and once president of the Statesboro Pilot Club. All of these experiences -- as well as her hobbies of cooking and housekeeping, are reflected in her papers. She died June 23, 2000.
