The Dean of Trinity College of Arts and Sciences is the University's principal spokesperson for the needs of undergraduate education. The Dean is involved in the processes of academic budgeting and in the appointment, promotion and retention of faculty. The Dean serves as the principal information source for current developments in undergraduate education along with the faculty, provides new ideas about curricular enrichment. Historically, the Dean has served as a presiding officer of the UFCAS, appointed Directors of Undergraduate Studies and of Freshman Studies, appointed faculty advisors for freshmen, served as a member of the Committee on Promotion and Tenure and participated directly in the selection of department chairs.
