Thompson, Erwin N.

Erwin Thompson served as an enlisted man in the United States (U.S.) Army. He was commissioned as an Army officer after attendance at the Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Erwin N. Thompson was a military historian. He was born in 1926. He served in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserves from 1944 to 1946 and enlisted in the United States (U.S.) Army in October 1948. During his U.S. Army career, he served as a personnel clerk in the Ryukyus Command and at Camp Stoneman, California. After graduation from several Army schools, he was assigned to the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was released from active duty in 1953 and became a member of the Army Reserves until 1966. He was employed as a National Park Service historian from 1960 to ca. 1980. Thompson wrote numerous publications on various military history topics during his career. He died in 1997.
