John Thomas Mahoney, born in 1905, was a freelance writer, editor, and friend of General S.L.A. Marshall.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Mahoney worked as a reporter for the Dallas News from 1925-1926 and served as city editor for the El Paso Post from 1927-1930. Among the many positions he held during his long career in journalism included that of associate editor for both Look and Fortune magazines. Mahoney also wrote several books, including "The Longest Auto Race," with George Schuster, in 1960, and "I'm a Lucky One, " with Staff Sargeant Barry Sadler, in 1967.
