Dr. Joseph A. Geddes was born in Plain City, Utah on November 27, 1884. His education consisted of an A.B. from Brigham Young College and Ph. D. from Columbia University. Dr. Geddes was an instructor at Oneida Academy in Preston, Idaho from 1910-1912 and principal between 1914-1919. After working as a professor at Brigham Young College from 1922-1926 he came to Logan as an associate professor in the economics and sociology department. He was promoted to the head of the department in 1931 and as the director of the social work division in 1938. He was an active member of the Consumer's Cooperative Association where he served as chairman of the State Self-Help Cooperative Association as well as on the board of directors and the executive committee. Geddes married Grace Woolley in 1914, and the couple would have five children. He died on March 31, 1981 in Centerville, Utah.
